Three Cores of the Christian Life

“Thou hast also given me the shield of thy Salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.” -Psalms 18:35

I just love this word picture. Christ is our shield, our foundation, we can’t expect to enjoy the protection and joy of life until we first recognize that we can’t do a thing on our own. Simple? Yes, but this seems to be one of our greatest struggles. Salvation is wholehearted trust in the work of Christ on the cross, and it’s key for every person. If you do nothing else, trust Him today and accept His free gift of Salvation!

Second, but just as vital is then how He holds us with His hand and guides us. When we are saved, we admit that we can’t do anything to “earn” Salvation, but somehow, as Christians, we tend to think it’s most of Christ, but some of me. Look at a child, sitting on a tall rock or tree. He can’t do anything to get himself down without hurting himself. He has to trust in the extended arm of the adult and put his trust that the arm will support him. As Christians, we can’t live a moment, let alone a day without our Savior. The very breath we breath is from Him, and we are dependent on Him.

And last, but not least, is not only is He our only way to survive, He cares for our good. Think about that. He is God and can snuff our life in a moment, yet He not only chooses to care for us, but He also wants us to experience all the joys in life! He wants us to be great and to make His name great to those around us. I know I get frustrated sometimes when things don’t go exactly my way or in my time, but I’m reminded that He cares for me and that I can trust Him fully . . . In EVERY area of my life!!!

“The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth forever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.” -Psalms 138:8
